  30. Installation (All Applications)
  31. ====================================
  32. If you purchased WS_FTP Pro online, install it by double-
  33.     clicking the file you downloaded, accepting the defaults, 
  34.     and following the prompts on your screen.
  35. To install WS_FTP Pro from a disk:
  36.   - Insert the WS_FTP Pro disk into a disk drive.
  37.   - If you are running Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 or later, 
  38.     click the Start button and select Run. If you are running 
  39.     Windows NT 3.51, select Run from the File menu.
  40.   - Enter the drive letter followed by install.exe. 
  41.     For example, a:install.exe.
  42.   - Choose WS_FTP Pro Installation, when asked.
  43.   - Follow the instructions on your screen.

  87. WS_FTP Icon Placement - all files are installed with the
  88.     WS_FTP Pro Classic

  91. Uninstalling (All Applications)
  92. ===============================
  93. The uninstall function removes all files associated with 
  94.     WS_FTP Pro from your PC, including your configured sites. 
  95.     It also removes the WS_FTP Pro Explorer icon from your desktop.
  96.  
  97. To uninstall WS_FTP Pro, you can use the Uninstall application 
  98.     that is installed when you install the product. To do so, click 
  99.     the Start button, select WS_FTP Pro, and then select Uninstall 
  100.     WS_FTP Pro.
  101.  
  102. To uninstall WS_FTP Pro using the original disk:
  103.   - If you are running Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 or later, click the 
  104.     Start button and select Run. If you are running Windows NT 3.51, 
  105.     select Run from the File menu.
  106.   - Enter the appropriate drive letter (and path) followed by 
  107.     install.exe. For example, a:install.exe.
  108.   - Choose Uninstall WS_FTP Pro, when asked.
  109.   - Follow the on-screen instructions.

  111. Removing WS_FTP Pro Icons (Classic and Explorer)
  112. ================================================
  113. The WS_FTP Pro Icon Placement utility is used to Remove/Install 
  114.     WS_FTP Pro Icons (Classic and Explorer) from/to
  115.     My Computer and/or Desktop.
  116.  
  117. To remove or install WS_FTP Pro icons:
  118.   - If you are running Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 or later, click the 
  119.     Start button and select Programs then select WS_FTP Pro then select
  120.     WS_FTP Pro Icon Placement.
  121.   - Check the appropriate options and then click the OK button.
  122.  
  123. Note that if you don't place the WS_FTP Pro Explorer
  124.     icon either on the desktop or in My Computer, you will
  125.     not be able to run the Explorer interface even if you 
  126.     have installed it.

  128. Year 2000 Compliance
  129. ====================
  130.   WS_FTP Pro is Year 2000 compliant, meaning that neither performance
  131.   nor functionality are affected by dates prior to, during, and after

  135. WS_FTP Pro Classic and Explorer
  136. ===============================
  137. Description
  138. -----------
  139.   WS_FTP Professional is a Windows-based file transfer client 
  140.   application that transfers files between a userÆs local PC and 
  141.   another, remote computer system connected via a modem and telephone
  142.   lines or by a local-area network. With WS_FTP Pro, users can connect
  143.   to any remote system that has a valid Internet address and an FTP 
  144.   server program, browse  through directories and files, and transfer 
  145.   files between the two systems. In addition, users can create, change,
  146.   and remove directories and view, execute, rename, or delete files.

  148.   WS_FTP Pro complies with the Windows sockets (Winsock) standard, 
  149.   allowing you to transfer files between a wide variety of systems, 
  150.   including Windows, OS/2, and UNIX systems.

  152.   WS_FTP Pro is shipped with two user interfaces: the "classic" which 
  153.   looks like a standard Windows application, and the Explorer with a 
  154.   user interface that is fully integrated into the Windows Explorer.

  175. Known Problems (WS_FTP Pro Explorer)
  176. ------------------------------------
  177.    -Paste menu option may not be available when using
  178.     Edit->Copy and Edit->Paste on early versions of Windows 95.
  179.     To work around this problem: open a local folder, select a
  180.     file and press CTRL-C, then select a remote file.  This only
  181.     needs to be done once after starting Windows.
  182.  
  183.    -If IE 4.x is installed with the Active Desktop, 
  184.     opening windows does not honor the "open in new window" 
  185.     Explorer->View option and will always open in the same window.
  186.     Hold the SHIFT key down and open the folder.
  187.  
  188.    -On permission errors, you see an error screen that has
  189.     a Continue and Cancel button; both buttons do the same thing.
  190.     Explanation: Only happens if there are no more actions,
  191.     otherwise Continue behaves differently than Cancel.
  192.  
  193.    -Occasionally, a file listing may duplicate or a change
  194.     that you made may not seem to have taken affect.  If this
  195.     occurs, select a file or folder in the display and press F5.
  196.  
  197.    -If a site is selected in the tree and you disconnect
  198.     from it, double clicking on the site does not re-establish
  199.     a connection.  Solution: Press F5.
  200.  
  201.    -There is no method within the FTP protocol to set up one port 
  202.     for a proxy/firewall and a different port for the FTP site.  
  203.     Whatever is set for the firewall is what will be used.
  204.  
  205.    -Opening the LogWnd and doing a Save, at the same time as a 
  206.     download is happening, seems to hang the application.
  207.  
  208.    -When trying to transfer entire directory structures, WS_FTP 
  209.     aborts when it encounters a link in a UNIX directory. The actual
  210.     site is ftp.cdrom.com, and the link is: 
  211.     /pub/linux/redhat/redhat-5.1/i386/misc/src/trees/initrd/linuxrc.
  212.     It appears that the link is broken. In any case, there is no 
  213.     workaround, and one must fall back to manual methods.

  219. WS_FTP Find Utility
  220. ===================
  221. Description
  222. -----------
  223.     The WS_FTP Find Utility lets users search an FTP site for files 
  224.     that match the userÆs criteria. This is especially useful for 
  225.     anyone who is looking for one file on a large, complex FTP site.

  232. WS_FTP Scripting Utility
  233. ========================
  234. Description
  235. -----------
  236.   - The WS_FTP Scripting Utility automates the transfer and 
  237.     management of files through FTP commands such as open, get, 
  238.     and put. For example, you can create a script that instructs 
  239.     WS_FTP Pro to upload certain files, and then use a scheduling 
  240.     program to run the script at the same time each day or week.
  241.   - Script lines that start with ';' are comments and are ignored by
  242.     the command processor.

  249. WS_FTP Synchronize Utility
  250. ==========================
  251. Description
  252. -----------
  253.   - The WS_FTP Synchronize Utility is designed to allow you to 
  254.     "mirror" folders and directories between your PC and a remote FTP 
  255.     server. It lets you keep remote sites up-to-date by automatically 
  256.     uploading files which have changed, while deleting files that have 
  257.     been removed from the master directory. This is especially useful 
  258.     for quickly and efficiently updating live web sites from an
  259.     authoring site, or for mirroring FTP servers.
